How to make Menemen: Turkish Egg Delicacy
Menemen is a Turkish-inspired egg dish similar to how people in Mexico and Latin America prepare eggs for breakfast. However, Menemen is unique, versatile, and delicious, thanks to the Aleppo chilies, spices, and feta cheese. Here are the ingredients and instructions to make Menemen. Read on!
Ingredients
- One tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil
- ¼ cup of onion – chopped
- Two tablespoons of red bell pepper – diced
- Two tablespoons of Aleppo chilies – diced
- A half teaspoon of red pepper flakes
- One teaspoon of minced garlic
- ¼ cup of tomato – chopped
- Three large eggs
- One tablespoon of basil leaves – sliced
- One tablespoon of feta cheese – crumbled
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a medium-sized skillet over medium heat
- Add bell pepper, chilies, onion, and red pepper flakes
- Cook until onions are soft for six minutes
- Now add garlic and cook for one minute
- Add tomatoes and season with salt and pepper
- Cook until tomatoes are softened for six minutes
- Add eggs to the skillet and avoid mixing
- Cook for five minutes and top with feta cheese and basil
Note: If you don’t like Aleppo peppers, you can use green bell peppers. Likewise, you can substitute parsley or cilantro for the basil.
