How to Make Empanadas – Spanish Pastries
Empanadas, also known as Spanish pastries, are not only famous in Spain but also in Latin America. It is one of the staple items in Argentinean cuisine. Depending on your preferences, you can make it like a tart or pastry. Here is the list of ingredients and instructions to make Empanadas.
Ingredients
- 12 empanada pastry rounds
- Five tablespoons of butter – divided
- Three green onions – minced
- One 14-ounce sweet corn
- One pinch of ground nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Six tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- One or two cups of whole milk
- Six tablespoons of parmesan cheese – grated and divided
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit
- Grease and flour a muffin tin that can contain 12 cups
- Now add and line the muffin cups with pastry rounds
- Heat butter in a skillet over high-medium heat
- Stir green onions for 3-5 minutes
- Add salt, corn, nutmeg, and pepper
- Stir again for two minutes
- Remove the from the heat
- Now add three tablespoons of butter to a saucepan
- Add flour and cook for one minute
- Pour in milk and cook until you create a thick sauce
- Add 50% of the parmesan cheese and continue stirring
- Stir sauce into the corn mixture
- Next, fill the pastry with the mixture
- Use the remaining parmesan cheese for topping
- Bake in the oven for 15 minutes
